Who says you can’t mix stripes with animal print or one type of gingham with another?
Print mixing is one of my favorite ways to sass up a look.
But before you take the plunge, there are definitely some guidelines to follow so that you don’t look like you got dressed in the dark. 🙂
Tips and Tricks to Print Mixing
1. Match Colors Not Prints
If the colors compliment each other, more often than not the prints will too.
That said, one can never go wrong with black and white, especially stripes, they go with everything.
2. Keep One Print Simple
One tip with print mixing is to make sure one of your prints only has two shades and generally keep them neutral.
My top has black and white stripes which easily blends with my animal print heels.
The same or similar colors, can be spotted in most other prints allowing your outfit to flow seamlessly.
3. Floral, Stripes or Polka Dot
If you aren’t quite ready to put on leopard or animal print just yet, stick with the three basic prints. AKA “your safe prints.”
These are the fashion neutrals of the world in terms of prints…they go with just about everything!
Make one of your prints floral, striped or polka dotted.
These timeless prints aren’t “as” intense and can be pulled off whether you’re a classic or trendy girl.
So I encourage you to start swapping out your black ballet flats you’d wear with jeans and a striped button-down for a leopard pair.
Or try wearing a pair of animal print sandals with a striped skirt.
The most important non-rule is to have fun and try not to overthink it. :0
I keep the rest of my look pretty simple with my makeup and accessories.
I hope this gives some of you confidence to try pattern mixing.
Do you have any rules you follow when print mixing….would love to hear about it. 🙂
